HISTORY

The Austin Charter Music Education Coalition was initially launched in 2016 as a teacher-led initiative. In addition to offering teachers a community of peers to share and learn from, the coalition offers three annual events, an all-region band and orchestra showcase, solo-ensemble festival, and a large ensemble festival and competition. After generous start-up funding from the Webber Family Foundation, the coalition is currently self-sustaining. We are grateful to all of the teachers who have volunteered their time for coalition events, and are grateful for our initial funding partner, the Webber Family Foundation, for believing in this shared vision.

In the next phase of development (2019-2022), we will broaden our reach to include teachers and students within traditional public schools, community-based music programs, and alternative learning settings. Our goal is to use collaborative music to bridge divides, thereby empowering more students to find their creative voices and strengthening the collective impact of music learning programs throughout Central Texas.
